Wire Christmas Tree

Step 8: Cut and straighten a 3" piece of 20G soft
wire. This piece of wire will become the trunk of the tree. Step 9: Make an eye loop in one end of this 20G wire. Instructions for making an eye loop can be found here. Step 10: Open the Eye loop so that you can ultimately connect it to the small bottom loop that you made in step 3. Instructions for opening and closing loops can be found here. Step 11: Thread five 6mm beads onto this 20G wire. |

|
Step 13: Grasp the 20G wire at the top of the Christmas tree, where it exits the hole at the top of the spiral with chain nose or bent chain nose pliers and bend the wire 90 degrees. Step 14: While holding the 20G wire in chain nose or round nose pliers make one or more loops in the 20G wire around the wire leading to the top loop in the Christmas tree. Cut any excess wire and press the cut wire tail flat with your chain nose pliers. |

| You can find a pattern for making a hanger for this
ornament
here or you can use any pattern for an ear wire as a hanger.
This design can be made larger than shown here by using 24 inches of wire instead of 18". You will need to remove the wire from the spiral maker when it gets to the size shown here and continue adding wire loops to the spiral with your fingers. Because the wire is soft, this is easy to do. Hold the spiral tightly in the fingers of one hand and bend the wire around the spiral in small increments with your other hand. You will need to bend a little, then re-grip the spiral and bend some more. After making the larger spiral, all the other steps remain basically the same. Good luck with your ornament or earrings! |
