Jewelry Making -- Spiral Earrings

Once you have the necessary jewelry tools and jewelry supplies begin as described below.

Step 1:  Cut and straighten a piece of 20G jewelry wire 3 inches long.

Step 2:  Make a loop a the end of the wire.

Step 3:  Begin making a spiral.  To do this you grasp the loop in the wire with your bent chain nose pliers and bend the jewelry wire in a series of small steps.  See the pictures 3a and 3b below.  Continue until you have three complete loops of wire as shown in picture 3c. 

Step 4:  Grasp the jewelry wire at the top of the spiral with your bent chain nose pliers and bend the wire so that it points toward the center of the spiral.  See the picture, below right.

Step 5:  Thread a bead onto the wire and position it against the spiral.

Step 6:  While holding the bead against the spiral, follow steps 9 a, b, c, and d to make a loop above the bead. 

Step 7:  Cut the excess wire.  Open the loop and thread it through the loop in your ear wire finding.  Close the loop and admire your finished spiral earring. 

Step 8: Complete this jewelry making project by making a second earring using the same steps.  When adding the beaded wire component to the ear wire finding, add the component so that it will be a mirror image of the first earring.
